Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina meets delegation of Hijra community

A delegation of five members of the third gender (Hijra community) met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday to express their gratitude, as the government recognized them as the third gender. Members of the delegation led by Abida Islam Maiyuri met with the Prime Minister at her Parliament office. Premier's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim described this interview as very emotional. He quoted the Prime Minister and said, Abida Islam Moyuri asked the Premier to accept her as her own child, without any hesitation, she replied, "but you are my child..."

The members of the delegation work under the Siri Samaj Kalyan Sangstha for the third sex in the Jamalpur district. The delegation thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for recognizing the Hijras as the third gender. Moyuri said to the prime minister: "In the past no government has worked for the benefit of the third gender. The Prime Minister urged her to work for society and said that her government has taken various services for the people of the third gender and has secured the right to stay with their families.
