The historic Mujibnagar Day will be observed in the country today (April 17) to mark the formation of the Bangladesh Govt-in-Exile on this day at Baidyanathtala in Meherpur, in greater Kushtia district. The event heralded the formal launch of the world-wide opinion mobilising and campaigns in favour of the Liberation War and independence of Bangladesh in 1971.

The Awami League on Saturday (Apr 5) issued a fresh warning that it would wage a greater movement if the party president Sheikh Hasina was not released immediately for treatment abroad. Censuring the interim government for its utter failure in every sector, senior leaders of the party also demanded effective measures to check the price spiral and a specific date for parliamentary elections.
