An affliction has been detected in the right eye of Awami League president and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, while the state of her ears is also not good.

The High Court yesterday stayed for three months the proceedings of the MiG-29 warplane purchase graft case against former prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina. The Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAC) filed the graft case against the former prime minister and four others in 2001 during the previous BNP regime.

The High Court (HC) yesterday granted three months' ad interim bail to Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina and presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim in a case filed by businessman Azam J Chowdhury.

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, now in the USA for her treatment, yesterday (Sep 15) pressed for declaration of the schedule of the general election before declaring the schedule of the upazila or local government election.  "What we need in general election first, not upazila elections," she said.

SC turns down govt petitions

The Supreme Court (SC) yesterday (Sep 15) turned down government petitions seeking stay of the effectiveness of High Court (HC) orders suspending earlier the proceedings of Niko and barge-mounted power plant cases against former premier Sheikh Hasina.
