The character of the International Military Tribunal, Nuremberg, of 8 August 1945 and also a resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations have defined crimes against humanity, whether committed in time of war or time of peace, eviction by armed attack or occupation and inhuman acts resulting from the policy of apartheid. After the election of October1, 2001, the political vengeance has taken its wrath and took it at the cost of the sufferings of the vulnerable characters of the society. It has broken all the normal norms of the international human-rights law and established such a bad reputation which Bangladesh never experienced before. Even in the military and autocratic regime, the human rights situation was not so volatile like the present one. In the name of “Brute Majority”, the BNP-Jaamat has established the “Brutality of terrorism”. Bangladesh is proved to an emerging democratic country which has been scorchly achieved and dedicated to the blood of thousands of martyrs. But what is going on in our country now is simply termed as reign of terror. The ruling BNP-Jammat alliance and their front organisations Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, Chhatra Shibbir and other political wings have spread the devastation in every corner of the Bangladesh. Whenever they found a man against their political belief, their baton of torture and repression seized on them. The most brutal prey of their vengeance was the women in our country. No one escaped their naked torture when women started from 5 years up to 60 years -all violated by the miscreants of the ruling party. Purnima of Shirajganj, Mahima and Sheuli from Puthia, Rajufa from Baghmara, Fahima, Sathi and Shimi from Dhaka, Rita Rani Das and Jotsna from Bhola-all of them fell prey to the nasty political vengeance of the ruling four-party alliance. Thousands of innocent girls like Purnima-Simi-Rajufa are today victims of their inhuman repression. Thousands of people like Gopalkrishna Muhuri are victims of their barbaric acts. Ganjoti Bhikhhu of Rauzan Some of them are killed in a brutal ways, some became disabled forever as their hands and legs were broken. Houses of some others were set ablaze. Their only fault was that either they cast or desired to cast vote for the candidates of their choice, which is their constitutional and basic human right. This process has thwarted the establishment of the rule of law and democracy in the country. Very often we talk about humanity; we talk a big mouth about human rights. But what is going on in the fate of the poor Purnima, Rajufa or Mahima... those who already departed may have found safety in their death. But those who still alive are living with humiliation, desolated and disgraceful mortification. Now it is our turn to stand beside them, to give them hope and induce a new dream into them to live and fight back. Stand on your feet and stand by the oppressed humanity. For treatment of these repressed people, for rehabilitation of the oppressed families and for ensuring justice for them in legal battles, a lot of money is needed.
