Mobilize public opinion globally to make Bangla as an official language of UN: PM Sheikh Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday urged the Bangladeshis living abroad to mobilise public opinion globally in favour of making Bangla as one of the official languages at the United Nations. She made the call while inaugurating a three-day programme marking the Language Martyrs Day and International Mother Language Day, 2012 held at the International Mother Language Institute in city's Segunbagicha.. Sheikh Hasina said the government is trying its best to make Bangla as one of the official languages at the United Nations and she herself had already placed a proposal to this end before the UN General Assembly. She said International Mother Language Day "calls us all to become world citizens being respectful to all. By bearing this spirit, all countries and people of all languages will benefit. And this will lead to unity in diversity." The premier said the aim of her government is to build the Bengali nation as science-oriented and technology-efficient.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged all to remain conscious to uphold the spirit of the immortal Ekushey and said the people who ignore the spirit of the Language Movement and four principles of the war of liberation are enemies' country's independence. To face those enemies, she said, the spirit of Ekushey should be infused in the new generation and Bangla language and literature should be practiced at all national spheres as well as all levels of the society,
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Awami League has established the voting rights of people through relentless struggle and in future her party would allow none to snatch away the right and play ducks and drakes with the fortune of the people. She urged BNP chairperson to stop unleashing odd and filthy languages derogative for disabled or any other individual and look into her own face before saying any such language in future.The Prime Minister was addressing the leaders and grassroots workers of Panchagarh district unit of Awami League (AL) at her official residence Ganobhaban yesterday as part of her meeting with district units of the party to discuss party matters and development activities of the area.
