| Attack/Description:
Gopalgonj District Motor Sramik Union called
for strike from July 31 2004 protesting harassment by a district
BNP leader. BNP leader forcefully tried to keep on buses running
with the assistance of his accomplices. A group of BNP activists
led by UP chairman Lotifur attacked a rally of the transport workers
and district Awami League activists in front of Moslem Plaza at
Chourangi in the town. At that time, police opened fire at the AL
rally. BCL leader Rakib Hossain Tushar died on the spot.

| Attack/Description:
The police went to Sumon's Amtali house at
1.30pm with a local BNP leader to search their house, but left the
place finding nothing. Two hours after the raid, a team of 15 Rapid
Action Battalion (RAB) officials went to Sumon's house when he was
taking a shower. They took Sumon, Sumon's cousin Lokman, 22, and
Akbar Hossain Pinku, 20, for interrogation about Ahsanullah murder.
The RAB officials took the three blindfolded to a camp by pickup
van. Sumon died in hospital in Tongi on July 17 from torture during
interrogation in the custody of RAB. |

Unidentified miscreants called Ishaq Ali out
of his Badiapara village home in Gangni upazila in Meherpur at dead
of night. They took the elderly man to a nearby field on gunpoint
and slaughtered him. Police recovered the body next morning and
sent it to Meherpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy. A case was filed. |
