March 25th: Darkest night in the history of Bangladesh

After the midnight of 25th March, Pakistani soldiers attacked suddenly on the sleeping people of the then East-Pakistan.

In a result of the brutal attack of the history of civilization at least 10,000 civil people including women and children were killed in the night. Pakistan occupation army used tanks and artillery against the follower of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They went on a rampage in Dhaka University area and killed the intellectuals, teachers and students mercilessly. They not only killed the general people but also tortured, looted and raped a lot that night.

On the other scene, they also cordoned the house and arrested the great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from his own residence of Dhanmondi 32. But understanding the situation, the leader of the bangalee nationalism, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, had sent a written message for the nation which carried the declaration of independence.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed the creation of the `Sovereign independent Bengali Nation’ and called on its people to resist the enemy force at all cost in every corner of Bangladesh.

Just before of being arrested, at the early hours of March 26, 1971, Bangabandhu declared the proclamation of independence:
This may be my last message, from today Bangladesh is independent. I call upon the people of Bangladesh wherever you might be and with whatever you have, to resist the army of occupation to the last. Your fight must go on until the last soldier of the Pakistan occupation army is expelled from the soil of Bangladesh and final victory is achieved.
