Bangladesh Leading The Way In Green Energy


Recently a report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) highlighted Bangladesh’s successes in creating substantial employment in the renewable energy sector. In the last ten years, Bangladesh, which currently boasts the sixth largest energy related workforce, saw the number of solar powered homes increase from 25,000 to 2.8 million.

Bangladesh Making Significant Progress in Labour Standards


Despite facing multi faceted challenges, Bangladesh, the third largest manufacturer and/or exporter of ready-made garments (RMG) in the world, has made significant progress in recent times to improve the working conditions of its labour force by taking a number of effective steps and/or actions. One such medium of reform has been the enactment of the Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Act 2013, which amended several provisions of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 and the formulation of the Bangladesh Labour Policy 2012.  Here, we look at some, but not all, of those measures adopted by the government in recent times:

Bangladesh received glowing reviews regarding its anti terrorism measures in the recent US State Department’s Country Report on Terrorism (2013). It noted with recognition the “remarkable successes” Bangladesh has achieved in the task of combating national and transnational terrorism.

Social Progress Index 2014: Bangladesh bagged remarkable slot in South Asia


According to the recent report by Washington-based non-profit organization Social Progress Imperative (SPI) Bangladesh produces another ‘development surprise’ in the SAARC region. Bangladesh ranked 99 among 132 countries and has scored higher than Pakistan (124), Nepal (101) and emerging economic power India (102), losing out only to Sri Lanka (85) in the region, according to this multi-country analysis report.
