Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said as part of modernization of the Bangladesh Railway (BR), process is underway for bringing 700 passenger coaches and 100 meter gauge locomotives in the BR fleet.


The government of Bangladesh has decided to provide a cash assistance of US $ 500,000 to support the victims of recent flood and landslides in Sri Lanka which killed more than 100 people and caused severe damage to livelihood and properties of thousand others.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said activities have been underway for increasing power generation capacity to 24,000 MW by 2021, adding, “34 power plants having 11,363 MW capacity are under construction and these plants would come into operation from 2017 to 2021.”


Mentioning that Bangladesh is solidly anchored at its principled position on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday urged the developing countries to forge greater cooperation to draw maximum benefits from the peaceful uses of nuclear technologies through IAEA expertise.
