Sheikh Hasina consoles slain Tuhin's mother, sister Awami League president and Leader of the Grand Alliance Sheikh Hasina on Saturday consoled the grieving mother and sister of slain Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL leader Mizanur Rahman Tuhin. Tuhin, a BCL leader of Mirzaganj thana unit in Patuakhali district, was killed by BNP armed goons on January 7. A heart-rending scene was created at Awami League's Dhanmondi office as Tuhin's old mother Rina Begum and sister Jharna Rahman embraced Sheikh Hasina while she was consoling them. Later, Awami League joint-secretary Obaidul Kader briefed the journalist about the incident demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to those responsible for the killing of Tuhin. He called upon the caretaker government to prepare a new list of terrorists based on news reports published during the last five years and collect real information about the terrorists from the people in their respective localities. Arresting and harassing innocent people and political workers are not desired by the people of the country, Obaidul Kader said adding that people's trust could be earned only by arresting real corrupt people and terrorists.

Awami League for fresh list of real terrorists Awami League joint-secretary Obaidul Kader saturday urged the Armed Forces members and law enforcing agencies to prepare a fresh list of real terrorists by collecting information from across the country and then launch a drive to arrest them. "It seems that the caretaker government is conducting its drive against terrorists on basis of the list prepared by the immediate-past BNP-Jsmaat coalition government," he said. Obaidul Kader was talking to journalists on behalf of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina when the family members of late Chhatra League leader Mizanur Rahman Tuhin met the party President at her Dhanmondi office. He was BNP-Jamaar cadres killed Tuhin on January 7. Obaidul Kader alleged that the immediate-past alliance government filed false cases against thousands of innocent leaders and activists of Awami League over the last five years. "It would be wrong and unwise if the drive is conducted on the basis of these false cases," he said urging the administration to nab the corrupt people and real terrorists, and not to harass innocent politicians. Hailing the crackdown on terrorists, corrupts and criminals, the Awami League leader said people would welcome this caretaker government if it takes initiatives against the real culprits. Obaidul Kader further alleged that the previous government withdrew some 70,000 cases of killing, terrorirm and arson filed against the leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat alliance on political consideration. "It's the primary duty of the caretaker government to nab these criminals." Awami League leader Tofael Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Matia Chowdhury, Mukul Bose, Abdur Rahman, Abdul Mannan and Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, among others, were present at the program.

Awami League blames BNP for 21 August blast Bangladesh Awami League has said the immediate past BNP-Jammat regime was behind the August 21 grenade attack on Awami League president Sheikh Hasina. Terming the BNP-Jamaat alliance mastermind behind the attack, Awami League joint-secretary Obaidul Kader said, they planned the devastating attack to annihilate the Awami League from the country by brutally killing the top Awami League leaders. He was talking to journalists at Dhanmondi Awami League office on Saturday evening. When asked about the Indian separatist organization ULF's involvement in the attack, he said, ask Khaleda Zia, Tareque Rahman, ex-home minister Lutfuzzaman Babar whether they used the ULFA to launch the grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina.
