BNP resorts to falsehood to save Tarique: Mohammad Nasim

Awami League presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim today said that BNP leaders have been resorting to falsehood to safe the accused of the August 21 grenade attack case including Tarique Rahman.

"Tarique Rahman led the killings of August 21 grenade attack from behind the scene that claimed the lives of 24 attendants of an anti-terrorism and peaceful public rally including Ivy Rahman which has come to light following proper investigation. Tarique, an accused of grenade attack case, could not be saved through terrorism, anarchy and falsehood," he said.

Mohammad Nasim, also spokesman of Awami League-led 14-party alliance, said this while speaking at a press conference of the alliance at the political office of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city.

The 14-party alliance convened the press conference to give reply to the remarks of acting secretary general of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir who said 'Awami League is a party of killers' and 'Sheikh Hasina is a killer'. The senior Awami League leader said, "Law will take its own course. The culprit will surely be punished. The accused can't be saved by unleashing terrorism and killing. BNP was responsible for all the sensational killing incidents that had occurred over the past few decades. Such a type of remarks of the BNP leader meant that 'the mother of a thief speaks aloud'. Jamaat-e-Islami, the most hatred party of 1971, is the lackey of them. Grouping together they have been carrying out such gruesome killings."

Mohammad Nasim said, "BNP has now been abusing us and resorting to falsehood being frustrated to launch any movement. I strongly believe that people will build resistance against them. BNP always choose August, the month of mourning, to attack us. In the past they unleashed grenade attack in this month (August 21) to make Awami League leaderless but failed. They deliberately didn't conduct inquiry into any of the carnages, rather tried to cover these up."

Terming Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's remarks as beyond all political norms, the 14-party spokesman said, "We believe that such a childish statement suits an acting secretary general of a party who was born in the womb of military dictator and usurper of state power. People will give a befitting reply to such remarks." Mohammad Nasim said, "There are criminal cases and cases of corruption remained pending for trial against a dozen of members of Zia family. They have looted and misappropriated state wealth and siphoned of public money abroad. Such a tall talks doesn't suit them who have amassed heaps of state wealth through illegal means."

Awami League joint general secretaries Dr Dipu Moni and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, relief and social welfare affairs secretary Faridunnahar Laily, deputy office secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Workers Party general secretary Anisur Rahman Mallick, Ganatantri Party general secretary Nurur Rahman Selim, central leader Dr Shahidullah Shikdar and Communist Kendro convener Dr Wadezul Islam Khan were present, among others.
