Bangladesh Awami League today called for ending all controversies on the issue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the Father of the Nation.
The nation should not have any controversy on the issue of the Father of the Nation as it is not be found any other countries including India, South Africa, USA and Pakistan, the party said.
"Bangabandhu is not the leader of Awami League only but as the father of the nation he should be revered by everybody irrespective of politicalbelief," the party, in a meeting of the central working committee, said.
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting at Gonobhaban. General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam delivered the introductory speech, BSS reports.
Evaluating the observance of the 40th national mourning day differently this year, Syed Ashraful Islam said spontaneous observance of the day by many quarters outside Awami League is very positive for country's politics.
The party expressed deep satisfaction over spontaneous observance of the 40th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by different political, social and cultural organizations.
Syed Ashraful Islam said people of the country now can understand the reasons of the Bangabandhu's murder. They love Bangabandhu from the deep of their heart and in future they would not tolerate any disrespect to the great leader.
The agenda of the working committee meeting was to discuss and evaluate the observance of the martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu this year, Syed Ashraf said.
Presidium members, general secretary of the party, secretaries in charge of different portfolios and central committee members attended the meeting.
Syed Ashraful Islam said the killers unleashed propaganda against Bangabandhu and his sons to undermine them before the people and global community. But with the passage of time it has been proved that the propaganda was completely false. People now can understand the cause of the killing of Bangabandhu, he said.
Awami League general secretary said Bangabandhu is the father of the nation, he cannot be considered as a member of any political party. This year people en mass have lined up to show homage to the great leader on his 40th martyrdom anniversary, which is very encouraging for the country's future, he said.
