BNP will not be able to secure victory in upcoming UP elections: 14-Party alliance

The Awami League led 14-Party alliance has claimed that the BNP will not be able to secure victory in upcoming Union Parishad elections.

Referring to some BNP leaders at a human chain programme, its coordinator Mohammed Nasim said on Monday, “Give up your love for Pakistan. We have defeated you in the past elections. You will not be able to win any election in the future too.” The programme was held in protest against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s controversial remarks over the number of Liberation War martyrs. It stretched from Dhaka’s Gabtoli to Jatrabari. The protest started at 4pm and lasted until 5pm. Members of the Kotwali Thana Awami League and its associates took part in the human chain which was formed at Bangabandhu Avenue. The 14-Party alliance announced to hold similar demonstrations and human-chain programmes in all districts and towns including the capital from 4pm to 5pm on Feb 24. The objective behind the ‘demonstrations’ was to raise public awareness as well as to protest the conspiracies hatched against Bangladesh and the efforts to malign the ideals of the Liberation War, the ruling coalition said. Awami League Presidium member Nasim accused the BNP of indulging in ‘conspiracy’ against the country. “We have hit the streets today (Monday) along with other citizens to foil their conspiracies,” he added. Stating that everyone joined the programme spontaneously, Nasim said, “Peace is the language of our protest. We never resort to arson and rampant destruction during our protests.”
