Bangladesh and the European Union work in collaboration following the framework of the EU-Bangladesh Co-operation Agreement concluded in 2001 which is being regularly updated on yearly basis. This agreement makes a broad scope available for co-operation, extending to trade and economic development, human rights, good governance and the environment.

The Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Shinzo Abe came to Bangladesh on an official tour from September 6 to 7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. During the historical visit the two Prime Ministers had a summit level meeting where the two leaders reiterated their resolve to widen bilateral relationship under the framework of "Comprehensive Partnership"and had in-depth discussions on wide-ranging bilateral, regional, international and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
