Awami League general secretary and LGRD minister Syed Ashraful Islam today said BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia celebrates her fake birthday on the National Mourning Day on August 15 to divide the nation further.
"The nation was divided by killing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on August 15. Kindly, don't divide the nation further by celebrating your fake birthday on the National Mourning Day," he called upon BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The Awami League leader made this call while speaking as the chief guest at pre-mourning public rally in front of Institution of Engineers in the city.
Awami Juba League (AJL) organised the public rally prior to bringing out a mourning march in observance of the National Mourning Day.
AJL chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury presided over the rally, also addressed, among others, by general secretary Harun-ar-Rashid, presidium members Shaheed Serniabat, Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, Faruque Hossain, Mahbubur Rahman Hiron and deputy minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy.
Alleging that Begum Khaleda Zia celebrates her fake birthday on the National Mourning Day on August 15 with her commitment to transform Bangladesh into a neo-Pakistan, Syed Ashraf said, "BNP is not a political party. It's a platform of all the evil forces in the society. They should be resisted and restrained with iron hand. Otherwise, it would not be possible to protect the entity of the country."
The AL general secretary said, "In reality, Begum Khaleda Zia has waged a war against the independence of the country as she observes her fake birthday on August 15 to express her hatred to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the War of Liberation."
"Talks can't be held with those who observe fake birthday with pomp by cutting cake on the National Mourning Day. They are the evil forces," he added.
Syed Ashraf called upon the leaders and workers of Awami League, Juba League and their associate bodies to remain prepared to eliminate the evil forces from the sacred soil of Bangladesh.
Later, a huge mourning march was brought out from the rally venue. The marchers paraded different city streets and rounded up the march in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on Dhanmondi Road-32.
