“Every person has the right to lead a peaceful life and we would take measures whatever necessary to protect that right," said Prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Referring to the brutal attack on a woman union council member at Kansat in Chapainwabaganj, Sheikh Hasina said tendons of her hands and legs were cut and the terrorists stabbed in her breast at the directives of local BNP leader.

She said those who attacked brutally the woman are not children of mothers. "How a person who grows up in his mother's womb and drinks her breast milk could attack a woman in a brutal way?" she asked.

"Would we not take action against that BNP leader? We must take action against him," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the BNP leaders are unleashing atrocities on the Awami league leaders and workers as well as other pro-liberation forces at the directives of Begum Zia.

The Prime Minister said that BNP and Jamaat-Shibir killed numerous leaders and workers of Awami League and its associate bodies as well as general people in Chapainawabganj, Satkhira, Rajshahi, Gazipur and Sylhet and other areas.

They have killed 16/17 leaders and workers in only Rajshahi, she said.

She ruled out the notion that the administration remains inactive to nab the terrorists and said, "BNP and Jamaat-Shibir are making clandestine attacks on the AL leaders, the administration is taking action when and where necessary."

Earlier, the Prime Minister talked to the wounded AL and BCL leaders and workers and consoled assuring them the government will do everything to ensure their better treatment.

She also directed the on-duty doctors to take care of them round-the-clock.

A heart-rending scene was created when the wounded leaders and workers were narrating the barbaric incidents before the Prime Minister.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, State Minister for Health Jahid Malek Swapon, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak , MP, and Advocate Rahmat Ali, MP, were present, among others.

A total of nine leaders and workers of Awami League and Chhatra League from Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Gazipur and Sylhet are undergoing treatment at the Orthopaedic Hospital.
