"If you have anything to say, you may come for discussions. But, refrain from killing people and create chaos in society. The government knows how to take stern actions against unruly politics," she said.

Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, was addressing a huge public meeting organized by the party at Suhrawardy Udyan here this afternoon marking Bangabandhu's homecoming day.

On this day in 1972, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned home getting release from Pakistan custody after nation's victory on December 16, 1971.

Extending her thanks to the people of Bangladesh for casting their votes in January 5 election braving the threat of BNP-Jamaat clique, the Prime Minister urged them to resist their evil design together.

Saying that Awami League will form the next government on January 12 next, she said, BNP-Jamaat could resort to terrorism like in 2001 as they was in power at that time.

"At that time, as the opposition party we could not stop violence in many areas. But, now we will constitute the government on January 12 and if required we will take tougher action against the culprits," she said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the BNP leader while was in power in 2006 had predicted that Awami League would never be able to come to power, even in the opposition bench. Now Begum Zia's prediction came true for herself, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said 12 political parties took part in the election, and 40 percent people have cast their votes defying all threats of BNP-Jamaat hooligans.

She said some parties boycotted the election aimed at creating room for an unconstitutional government and playing ducks and drakes with the voting rights of the people.

"But, people of the country have torn apart the conspiracy and registered their support for democracy, constitutional process and peace and development. It also reflected their stand against return of militancy and terrorism to power again," she added.

Sheikh Hasina said the Election Commission has conducted the polls in a free and fair manner. Members of the law enforcement agencies and armed forces have protected the voting rights of the people even risking their lives, she said.

The Prime Minister said people of the country should be conscious and active against every subversive activity as they helped sustaining democratic system and constitutional rule.

Sheikh Hasina said the BNP and Jamaat are now attacking the minority people as they took part in the election and gave vote to the symbol of 'boat'. The BNP have to give answer for the torture on minorities, she said.

The Prime Minister said over 40 percent people exercised their franchise in January 5 election. Boycotting the poll was a great mistake of the BNP. Now Begum Zia wants the common people to pay for their mistake and for this she is instigating terrorists and Jamaat-Shibir men to carryout the attacks on minorities, she said.

She said the government has already directed the law enforcement agencies to carryout joint operations in the troubled prone areas. Action is being taken against the culprits and if required we would take more actions, she said.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh has launched its journey to prosperity. The country would be hunger and poverty free as dreamt by martyrs. None would be able to create obstacle to this path.
