Govt. identifies six first track projects including Padma Bridge

Besides the PMB Project, the five other projects are Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project, Rampal Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Metro Rail Project), Sonadia Deep Seaport in Cox's Bazaar and Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal Construction Project.

The projects were identified at the maiden meeting of the reconstituted Fast Track Project Monitoring Committee held at the Prime Minister's Office here this morning.

Chairperson of the Committee Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

After the meeting, Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Bijan Lal Deb briefed reporters.

He said the crucial meeting held a detailed discussion on the progress and future activities of the six projects.

At the meeting, he said, the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to execute the projects within the stipulated time.

About the much-awaited PMB Project, she underscored the need for dredging of the river to check river erosion and run economic activities on the reclaimed lands.

Talking about Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and Rampal Power Plant, Sheikh Hasina said the government has given emphasis on producing electricity through multi-source power projects.

In this context, she mentioned that a process is underway to generate electricity on joint venture with India, Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Environment and
Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Monju, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman
Sharif Dilu, Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Moshiur Rahman, State Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yeafesh Osman and State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid Bipu attended the meeting.

Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hussain Bhuiyan, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Shaikh Md Wahid Uz Zaman, PMO Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and secretaries concerned were present.
