D8 secretary general greets PM

In a congratulatory message, Mousavi expressed his firm confidence that during the second consecutive term of Sheikh Hasina and under her able and visionary stewardship, Bangladesh would be able to address all the future challenges.

The country would play its due role both at the regional and international level, particularly with regard to the D-8, he hoped.

The D-8 secretary general also expressed his desire to further strengthen the fraternal and cooperative relations among the member countries, taking it to a higher level through collective endeavor towards achieving the common goals as enshrined in the Istanbul Declaration of 1997.

The D-8 (Developing-8) is a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations that have formed an economic development alliance. It consists of Bangladesh, Egypt,Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.

The D-8 was founded by former Turkish Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan. The group was established after an announcement in Istanbul, Turkey on June 15 in 1997.
