PM to address rally in Satkania on March 1st

General Secretary of the Chittagong South district unit of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Mofizur Rahaman disclosed this at a press conference in Chittagong Press Club (CPC) last afternoon.

Chittagong South district unit of AL arranged the press conference protesting the attack on AL Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Abu Reaza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nodovi by the Jamaat-Shibir activists.

AL leader Mofizur Rahaman said the AL will also bring out a Long March toward Satkania led by Chittagong city AL president and former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury on February 8 protesting recent attacks and continuous violent acts and anarchy by the Jamaat-Shibir activists in the upazila.

He also informed that local unit of AL will also arrange a rally at Battol area of Lohagara upazila tomorrow.

Mofizur Rahaman in his written statement alleged that Jamaat- Shibir activists upon directives from former Jamat lawmakers ANM Shamsul Islam and Shah Jahan Chowdhury carried out more than 100 destructive attacks in Satkania and Lohagara upazilas recently.

"The Jamaat-Shibir activists killed six persons including a police constable and injured 27 leaders and activists of AL and its front organizations", he said adding that the miscreants also torched schools, madrasa and houses of the people of the minority community.

AL lawmaker Dr Abu Reaza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nodovi alleged that several thousands cadres of Jamaat- Shibir hired from Banskhali, Moheskhali and Satkhira carried out the pre-planned attack.

He also demanded exemplary punishment of the Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists including ANM Shamsul Islam and Shah Jahan Chowdhury.

AL MP Nodovi, elected from Chittagong-15 constituency on Friday night attended a Siratunnabi Mahfil, an Islamic function, at Chunti Union Parishad's Shah Manjil where local Jamaat-Shibir men hurled shoes and stones at the MP the moment he started speaking as chief guest at the ceremony.

Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, MP and AL leader Muslem Uddin Ahmed, among others, spoke at the press conference.
