New Delhi agrees to Dhaka's partnership in India-Bhutan hydroelectric plants

A decision on the issue will be made when Indian Power Secretary Pradip Sinha visits Bangladesh next month.

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque said this while talking to journalists here today after a meeting with his Indian counterpart.

He said two hydroelectric power plants with 4,500-MW at Sangkhas and 1,800-MW at Khangri are being constructed with Indian financing.

We have to install power transmission line to bring electricity from Bhutan, he said adding that it will take two years to install such a line.

The Bangladesh foreign secretary also met with Indian Home Secretary Anil Goshwami and Textile Secretary Zohra Chowdhury.

During the meetings, the two sides discussed various bilateral issues including border cooperation and visa system of the two friendly countries.
