The Yunnan Province governor said this when he called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office here this morning.

Highly eulogising the hospitality of the Bangladesh government, the Yunnan Province governor said that the Bangladesh-China relationship is tested in time and the Yunnan Province is the next-door neighbour to Bangladesh.

Recalling Sheikh Hasina's visit to Kunming in 2010, Li Jiheng Gi extended his greetings to the Prime Minister on her assumption of office through the landslide victory in the January 5 elections.

The governor said that China had always been with the people of Bangladesh and would remain in the coming days.

Mentioning that achieving around 6 percent GDP rate by Bangladesh on average in the last couple of years, the Yunnan Province governor said that this was possible due to the firm leadership of Sheikh Hasina and her commitments to the people of Bangladesh.

The Yunnan Province governor handed over an official invitation letter to the Prime Minister to join at the China- South Asia Expo to be held in Yunnan Province capital of Kunming in the first week of this June.

In response, Sheikh Hasina said that she would try her best to be present at the exposition.

"The exposition would be a golden opportunity for the South Asian nations including Bangladesh for expansion of trade and commerce," she said.

The Prime Minister thanked the governor for continued support of the Chinese government as well as the people of China towards the advancement of Bangladesh's democracy and development.

She also thanked China the way it has extended support to Bangladesh to maintain the continuation of democratic process in
Bangladesh through the January 5 polls.


Noting that connectivity is very much important between Bangladesh and Yunnan, Sheikh Hasina said that following her visit to Kunming in 2010, the two-way trade, commerce and investment have surged manifold, and the rising trend would continue in the days to come.

Referring to the recent aircraft missing of Malaysia Airlines carrying around 150 passengers of China apart from passengers of other countries, the Prime Minister conveyed her deep sympathy to
the family members of those passengers of the missing jet.

She also apprised the governor of the measures of the Bangladesh government to track down the missing aircraft.

Acknowledging the steps of the Bangladesh government to this end, the Yunnan Province governor expressed her deep gratitude to Sheikh Hasina in this regard.

Placing emphasis on setting up road and rail connectivity between Bangladesh and Kunming via Myanmar, Sheikh Hasina said that such kind of connectivity would help boost the trade and commerce between the two places to a great extent.

Talking about the economic corridor of Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM), the Prime Minister said if it is implemented in full swing, then all the four member countries of the forum would benefit to a great extent from this.

Citing that there has been a historical bondage between Bangladesh and China, Sheikh Hasina said that the direct communications between Dhaka and Kunming symbolise the increased relationship between the two regions.

Sheikh Hasina also emphasized the need for direct communication between Chittagong and Kunming.

In this connection, the Yunnan Province governor noted that Chittagong and Kunming have now become sister cities.

Mentioning the existing Chinese support to Bangladesh's infrastructure, IT, defense, power and energy sectors, the Prime
Minister hoped that this support would continue in the days to
come.
