"It is the failure of BNP and it happens if the language of the people could not be understood," she said and expressed gratitude to the people for saying "no" to their violent acts.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing a discussion before an Iftar Mahfil arranged by UK chapter Awami League at London Hilton Hotel here last evening.

Chaired by UK AL President Sultan Mahmud Sharif, chairman of the home affairs select committee Keith Vaz MP, All European AL president Anil Das Gupta, Belgium AL President Abdur Rashid, UK AL organizing secretary Sajjad Miah, joint general secretary Naimuddin Nizam, London AL president Nurul Haque, among others, spoke at the Iftar party.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, renowned journalist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury and Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, among others, joined the Iftar.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, said if any party boycotts an election with a plan to thwart it and ultimately fails to do so and even fails to wage a movement, then the responsibility cannot be shifted upon the common people of Bangladesh or Awami League.

She said BNP was trying to burn all with the flame of its failure, but they would not be able to cause any harm to the country and its people.

"I promise, they (BNP) won't be able to cause any harm by the grace of almighty Allah. They won't be able to do anything (destructive)," she said.

Blasting the BNP-Jamaat nexus for its atrocities on the people in the name of the movement she said , there were no misdeeds they did not commit in the name of foiling polls including enforcing hartal, killing, torching holy Quran, bus and train, felling trees and digging roads.

The Prime Minister said despite the violent acts of BNP-Jamaat, her government has been able to keep continue the wheels of development.

"We have reached textbooks to all students of the country by January 1 and it had been possible as we had a good intention," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said a scope has been created to complete the development works launched during the second term of the Awami League government as the party was reelected through the January 5 elections.

"We have got an opportunity to finish the development works that we started during our previous tenure. There are four years and five months remaining and we hope to complete those works within the time," she said.
