Jatiya Sangsad Condemns Israeli Atrocity On Palestinians in Gaza: Adopted A Resolution To Stop Bloodshed

Participating in the general discussion on the resolution brought by treasury bench member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, both treasury and opposition members urged the world conscience to come forward to resolve the longstanding problem in Gaza and declare Palestine as an independent state immediately.

The lawmakers put their opinion on this humanitarian issue under rules of procedures 147 in the Jatiya Sangsad with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith condemned the attack on the Palestinians saying, " the people of Bangladesh historically faced oppressions and suppressions in different times, so we are in favour of the oppressed people of the world."

He also vowed to stand by the people of Palestine, provide necessary support to them and said adopting such a resolution in the parliament is the reflection of characteristic of the Bangladeshi people.

Echoing same with Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said, "We are by the side of Palestinians who are right now facing a very tough time following the inhuman attacks of the Israeli troops. We are with the victims and oppressed people worldwide."

He was very critical about the roles of different human rights bodies, who are frequently telling about the rights of the people but silent about the Palestinian people.

Mentioning causalities in the gruesome attacks destroying 72 families, killing 495 children and 13 journalists and damaging 200 schools in Gaza, Amu called upon the world conscience to ensure their (Palestinians) rights.

He said the world leader phoned Bangladesh on the internal election issue while they do not say anything about the Gaza killings.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed expressed his deep sorrow and shock at the killings in Gaza and also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls there. He said Bangladesh would always be with the Palestinians hoped that Palestine would be free from the aggression of Israel like Bangladesh, which was freed from the Pakistani occupation in 1971.

Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim demanded exemplary punishment to the Israeli attackers on the Gaza people in an International Crime Tribunal.

Selim bitterly criticized the silent role of representatives of the United Nations (UN), United States and Western leaders, who have been frequently preaching the message of human rights but "keeping mum instigating attacks on the innocent citizens showing thumbs to the world conscience."

Referring to the role of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, "the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world leader has first raised her strong protest against the Israeli attacks on the Palestinians." He called upon the Muslims across the world to forge a greater unity against the Israeli attacks on the Palestinians.

Senior parliamentarian Suranjit Sengupta protested the barbaric attacks on Gaza terming it as a "cowardice act" and said "We condemn all the atrocities perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people."

He told the parliament that over the last 51 days since July 7, as many as 2,148 Palestinians, majority women and children, were killed, over 11,000 others injured while thousands of them became homeless.

Suranjit condemned the role of UN, world human right organizations, OIC, US and western countries for not taking any necessary step against the killings and tortures on the innocent people.

Taking part in the discussion, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim condemned the Israeli attacks on Gaza terming it an 'atrocious action' in the human history. He lauded the pragmatic steps of Sheikh Hasina through raising protest against the Gaza incident and said this issue must be raised in the world forum.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon vowed to continue Bangladesh government's protest on Palestine issue saying, "Adoption of the resolution condemning the Israeli attacks is a time-befitting step from Bangladesh as Bangladesh will remain by the side of oppressed inhabitants of Gaza."

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique strongly protested the Gaza killings terming it as a holocaust or gruesome killings that posed threat to the peace loving and pious Muslims of the world.

Chief Whip ASM Feroz also condemned the barbaric attacks and demanded compensation from the attackers for the losses of lives and properties in Palestine.

Opposition member Kazi Feroz Rashid called upon the world leaders to settle the Palestine issue immediately and also urged Sheikh Hasina to raise this issue in the international forums.

Ziauddin Bablu lauded the Prime Minister's role on the Gaza issue and also requested her to speak on it in the upcoming UN General assembly, so that the Palestinians get relief from the curse of the Israeli aggressions.

Lawmakers who took part in the discussion include: Abdul Matin Khasru, Dr Dipu Moni, Hasan Mahmud, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Fazlee Hossian Badsha, Tahjib Alam Siddique, Trana Halim, SM Abul Kalam Azad.
