Government To Construct Multistoried Buildings In Rural Areas

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this when a delegation of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BRCS) made a courtesy call on her at her Tejgaon office here today.

The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina lauded the activities of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society in the country during natural disasters.

After the call on Press Secretary to the Prime Minister A K M Shameem Chowdhury briefed the newsmen.

Chairman of the Society Dr M S Akbar led the BRCS delegation while Head of Governance Support IFRC Geneva Frank Olaf Mohrhauer, member of BRCS Dr Habibe Millat, MP and organizational Development Coordinator of IFRC Asia Pacific Zone John Gwynn were included in the delegation.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Abdus Sobhan Sikdar and PMO Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were also present.

Sheikh Hasina said no citizen of the country would remain homeless and her government would construct multistoried buildings in the villages to provide urban civic amenities to the villagers.

Besides, she said, Mujib Kellas, the cyclone shelters constructed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman government after the independence, would be renovated.

The government would construct more multipurpose cyclone shelters in the coastal areas, she said.

The Prime Minister lauded the humanitarian activities of the Red Crescent Society in Bangladesh. She also recalled services of different Un agencies in Bangladesh after the independence for reconstruction of the war ravaged country.

The delegation members thanked the Prime Minister for extending support to their operations in Bangladesh without any interference of the government.
