Fighting Terrorism: JMB Ameer, six others held at Turag

The arrestees are, acting JMB Ameer Amir Abdullah alias Nahid, 29, Md Naim Ali, 28, Md Sikandar Ali alias Naki (25), Mahmud Ibne Bashar (23), Md Masum Billah, 26, Fuad Hasan, 18 and Ali Ahmed (24).

Acting on a tip off, a joint team of DB and Legal Interception Cell (LIC) of Police Headquarters conducted a raid at Ashulia Landing Station Parking area under Turag Police Station at around 1.05pm on Thursday and arrested the seven.

They also recovered 10 kilograms of jell mixed chemical, four statues of bronze, some jihadi books and leaflets used for instigating people to get involved in militant activities.

During preliminary interrogation, they confessed that they have plan to carry out attacks on the VIPs (Very Important Persons) and VVIPs (Very Very Important Persons) and key installations of the country, said joint commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of police Monirul Islam at a press briefing at DMP Media Centre.

They have planned to attract attention of the Iraq-Syria based militant organization Islamic State(IS) after attacking on the VIPs,VVIPs and key installations of the country, he said.

Quoting JMB operatives he also said they already made several attempts to carry out attacks on VIPs, VVIPs and key point installations, but failed.

It is learnt that JMB's acting chief Nahid made contact with IS in absence of their Ameer Maulana Saidur Rahman, who is now in jail, DB sources said.

JMB supremo Nahid was wanted in more than 20 cases filed under explosivesact with different police stations in Gazipur and Tangail. Nahid's elder brother Abdullah Al Sohail was awarded death sentence in the case of exploding bombs at Gazipur court.

Two separate cases--one under explosives act and the other under anti-terrorism act were filed against the seven with Turag Police Station.
