US to continue work with Bangladesh to achieve common goals: Obama

"The two countries would continue to work together in strengthening the bilateral relations, and for achieving our common goals," he said when the newly appointed Bangladesh ambassador to the USA, Mohammad Ziauddin presented his credential to the US President on Thursday.

The US President assured Ziauddin of providing necessary support and cooperation in discharging his duties during his tenure in the USA, according to a message received here today.

Earlier, the US President welcomed the Bangladesh's ambassador at the Oval Office of White House.

Ambassador Ziauddin conveyed to President Obama the warm greetings of President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and also their warm invitation to him to visit Bangladesh as soon as convenient.

Ziauddin said Bangladesh and the USA enjoy the best of relations and that the USA has been to Bangladesh a time tested, trusted and reliable partner in its development and progress.

He mentioned how grateful Bangladesh was to President Obama for its inclusion in all four of his Global Initiatives - Feed the Future, Climate Change, Health and Engagement with the Muslim World.

Ambassador Ziauddin also stated that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina deeply appreciates the support of the USA and other friends of Bangladesh in its fight against terrorism and all forms of extremism in the country.

Earlier at 9.00 am, representatives from the Chief of Protocol's office escorted Ambassador Ziauddin and his family to the White House.

On their return to the Bangladesh House, a reception was held by the Ambassador for the escorting and embassy officers.

Later, the embassy officials organized a dinner at the Chancery in honor of the ambassador.
