Published on December 6, 2014Its objective is to find innovative solutions to 10 issues related to question papers leak, sexual harassment, traffic congestions, road security, corruption, reproduction health, sanitation, cyclone centre management, safe water supply and safe roads.
The 36-hour programme was inaugurated by State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak at Dhaka’s Diploma Engineers' Institute on Saturday.
The winning team will be awarded an innovation fund of Tk 2,000,000 along with other prizes. The top ten teams will also receive prize money of Tk 200,000 from the government.
A total of 1, 675 programmers, freelancers, students, app-builders are taking part in the hackathon divided in 288 teams. 59 professional companies are also participating. Each five-member team consists of coders and designers.
The occasion is known worldwide as the ‘marathon coding event’ where developers display their definitive skills.
“We only see problems in the social communication media. One blames the other. We keep talking about various issues like traffic congestions, question papers leak, corruption. But what is the solution? Will we only identify the problems or will we provide solutions too?
“The young generation will find the solutions to the various problems of city life in the hackathon,” ICT State minister said at the ceremony.
