Published on May 20, 2015PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said Sushil Koirala phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this evening to convey his thanks and gratitude to Bangladesh Prime Minister and its people for quick sending of emergency relief materials and medical teams after the disaster.
During the 12-minute conversation, Sheikh Hasina expressed her profound grief at the loss of lives and properties in Nepal in the tremor. She expressed her firm hope that the existing friendly relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the coming days.
Nepalese premier informed the Bangladesh Prime Minister that he is anxious over the possible situation that might occur in the coming monsoon when most of the affected dwellings could not be repaired. In response Sheikh Hasina assured him of sending more house-building materials for repairing the smashed homes and structures.
Sheikh Hasina offered her Nepalese counterpart that Nepal can use Syedpur and Ishwardi airports for carrying the relief and other materials.
The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal's capital Kathmandu and its surrounding areas on 25 April claimed lives of thousands, injuring hundreds of thousands of people apart from huge destruction of properties.
