In the continuation of government’s achievement in last five years, today we are presenting the fourth part of ‘Development Stories’.


Local Government
• Including 16 new ‘Pourosova’s, 6 city corporations, Dhaka north, Dhaka south, Narayanganj, Comilla, Rangpur and Gazipur city corporations have been formed.
• Coverage of safe water has been raised to 88 percent.
• Including 59 pourosovas, water distribution and sanitation system have been improved in Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Barisal city corporations.
• Among the SAARC countries, Bangladesh has achieved the most coverage of safe water which is 91 percent.
• Water production of Dhaka Wasa has been raised from 185 Crore liter to 225 Crore liter.
• 203 kilometer of new water pipeline, 15 kilometers of new sanitation line, and 64 kilometers of drainage line have been installed.
• 9 deep tube well have been installed by Khulna Wasa spending 43 crore taka.
• Daily water distribution of Rajshahi Wasa has been raised from 2.59 Crore to 5.54 Crore liter.
• 10 kilometer long Mayor Hanif flyover has been constructed from Jatrabari to Polashi.


Public Administration
• For a dynamic and modern administration, 300,000 posts have been created and the age of entry to service has been raised to 32 years.
• Implementation of National Wage Scale 2009.
• Appointment of 21032 in first class posts, 28000 in second class posts, 129696 in third class posts and 24590 in fourth class posts in different ministries and departments.
• 5972 have been appointed in different cadre services from 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st BCS exams. Activities continued to appoint more 4817 cadres.
• Around 3000 officers have been promoted from Under Secretary to Secretary
• Retiring age of public servants has been raised to 59 years from 57 and freedom fighters can retire in 60 years of age.
• People’s Jute mills of Khulna and Kawmi Jute mills of Sirajganj were reopened after being closed for a long time.
• 23 among 27 jute mills of BJMC were reopened. Initiation of opening 3 other mills.


Information
• 8th newspaper wage board has been formed. 50 percent allowances have been announced. Grant from Prime Minister’s fund for the welfare of journalists.
• 1 public and 14 private television channels have been permitted to go on air.
• For the first time in the country, 14 community radio channels have been permitted to operate.
• Information rights act has been prepared. Information Commission has been formed and relevant acts and regulations been prepared.


Hill Tracts
• Reformation of Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari hill tracts district council.
• Mobile network has been established in three hill tract districts.
