Jamaat-e-Islami and their student wing Islami Chattra Shibir were involved in violence throughout the year 2013 and few days in January 2014 after the 10th parliamentary election. Their violent activities included:
• Killing of innocent people and policemen
• Arson attack on people
• Setting fire on vehicles
• Cutting down the roadside trees.
• Attack on Hindu and Buddhist communities
• Burning household of people

They committed the same violence in 1971 during the liberation war of Bangladesh. The nine-month carnage of the Bangladesh Liberation War is widely viewed as genocide; the Pakistan Army and their collaborators targeted Hindu communities, intellectuals and members of the political opposition for attacks. Historians have estimated that, during the war, between 200,000 and 400,000 women and children were raped. More than 3 million civilians were killed by Pakistani military and their collaborators during the war.
The members of Islami Chhatra Sangha (ICS), the then student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, turned into militiamen of ferocious Al-Badr Bahini and killed several hundred intellectuals towards the end of the Liberation War.

Shibir came under the spotlight for killing their rivals and cutting their tendons, a unique style introduced by the Shibir in the 1980s. Jamaat-Shibir men have resorted to violence on many occasions since then, including when Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee was sentenced to death by the International War Crime Tribunal, Bangladesh.
