Five year working plan of AL government for developing the Railway Sector

According to railway ministry, Government has 21 short term projects which will be implemented by June, 2015. 22 middle termed projects by 2016. Government has also decided to finish the work of 6 long term projects by 2018.


Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md. Tafazzal Hossain has said that these work plans have been taken to improve the passenger service of railway and thus making railway more stronger medium of communication. He also said that these work plans will be finalized by the authority very soon. He hoped that it will develop the railway sector to a great extent.


According to the work plan, short termed projects include short term filling up the vacant positions, creating new positions, finalizing the organogram, opening closed stations, reforming new loop lines for avoiding train accidents, Changing the seats of 2,500 chair coaches, enhancing the security, preparing double line from Tongi to Vairab, remodeling of Chittagong station, reformation of a 200 year old master plan, developing the catering system etc.


Middle termed projects include finalizing the work of Dhaka- Chittagong dual line, developing works, collecting 10 new engines funded by government, quickly finishing the works of 17 running projects, collecting 270 passenger coaches funded by ADB and India, constructing second Vairab and Titash bridge, modernizing 38 signal and interlocking system, constructing 78.80 km rail line from Ishwardi to Dhalarchar, constructing Dual gauge double line at Tangi- Joydebpur and Akhaura-Laksam section etc.


Long term projects include rehabilitation of Kulaura- Shahbajpur section rail line, constructing new rail line from Khulna to Mangla, constructing 128 meter gauge track from Ramu to Gundum of Mayanmar, collecting 70 locomotives under suppliers’ credit, collecting 200 MG passengers’ coach under tenderers’ financing, constructing Dhaka- Comilla elevated cord line, constructing meter gauge line to Bagura- Sirajgonj-Raipur-Sadanandapur etc.


After forming the new government in 2014, Bangladesh Awami League government has taken the railway sector quite seriously. This is evident in different projects taken up by the government. These projects have already helped developing the railway sector and we hope that these will continue to do so.
