Published on December 9, 2020The newly formed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU) have signed a Letter of Agreement (LoA) with Airbus India to support the development of a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standard training and maintenance training organizations.
Airbus India & South Asia President and Managing Director Remi Maillard and BSMRAAU Vice Chancellor (VC) Air Vice-Marshal AHM Fazlul Haque signed the LoA on behalf of their respective organizations on Tuesday.
Driven by EASA and Airbus safety parameters, the LoA provides a roadmap for both teams to engage effectively for the establishment of an Approved Training Organization (ATO) and Maintenance Training Organization (MTO) under the Airbus umbrella.
“World class education is only possible by partnering with high-ranking global universities, internationally acclaimed institutes/organizations and globally renowned aviation industries who have already showcased their excellence through gaining vast experience in the aviation sector,” said Air Vice Marshal AHM Fazlul Haque, Vice Chancellor of BSMRAAU.
“Support from such an entity is definitely going to fulfil our core mission, achieving the goal of offering world-class education, research and facilitating capacity building on aviation,” he added.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman in his speech assured to provide all necessary support and cooperation for the development of BSMRAAU and the implementation of the LoA signed between BSMRAAU and Airbus.
Deputy Minister of Education Mr Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said: “I am optimistic that with such cooperation, BSMRAAU will be recognized as an internationally accredited university. Despite being new, this university has become a trend setter by bringing the unique concept of collaboration with the industry.”
He also mentioned the vision of the government for space.
“The Father of the Nation established Betbunia Satellite Earth Station and his capable daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, through her farsightedness, helped the nation enter the space age by ensuring the launch of the Bangabandhu Satellite-1, the 1st Bangladeshi geostationary communications and broadcast satellite,” he said.
The deputy minister also said the efforts of BSMRAAU will not be limited, instead expanding through research and industrial collaboration.
The ceremony was also attended by ambassadors of the French Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, and Kingdom of Spain, high commissioner of the United Kingdom, chief of air staff, CAAB chairman, president Asia Pacific of Airbus Defence and Space, and other Airbus representatives.
On November 29, BSMRAAU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus India to modernize Bangladesh’s aviation industry.
