BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists started a countrywide killing spree after forming the government on October 20, 2001. They committed shocking and horrific incidents like raping children and women in front of their parents and husbands. Besides extortion and torture, they continued illegally grabbing and occupying businesses and properties of ordinary people. Khaleda Zia government neither take any initiative to stop such crimes, police nor helped the victims.

On November 18, 2001, the daily Janakantha reported that BNP-Jamaat terrorists killed eight people in Satkhira in 10 days. Meanwhile, the son of Hossain Ali Gazi of Patrakhola village in Shyamnagar was woken up from sleep and brutally murdered by inserting an iron rod into his ear. In this way, the terrorsts killed the opponents and ordinary people. They even started killing themselves in infighting over the share of extortion and spreading supremacy.

Villagers could not sleep at night due to fear of their terror. They used to attack houses at midnight and rape women and children. On November 1, BNP-Jamaat terrorists entered the house of Binarpota village in Satkhira Sadar, tied up the husband and raped the mother of two children. On November 2, a sixth-grade daughter of a widow was raped in front of her mother in Raghunathpur village of Kaliganj. The miscreants raped a six-year-old child in the Rajpur village of Asashuni on November 3.

The BNP-Jamaat government did not take any action amid the anarchy of murder, rape and illegal encroachment. In contrast, Tarique Rahman sent messages to the police stations not to stop the party leaders and activists from doing these misdeeds. As a result, the victims did not get any justice despite seeking police help in these incidents.
