Published on May 1, 2025The Bangladesh Awami League expresses deep concern and strong condemnation over the recent policy decision made by the illegal and unconstitutional occupying fascist government of Yunus to grant a corridor in the area bordering Myanmar.
This region has long been a conflict zone between the Myanmar government and the Arakan Army. Furthermore, it borders Rakhine State, which shares international frontiers with both India and China—nations with significant and often conflicting strategic interests in the region. Such a decision not only poses a serious threat to Bangladesh’s sovereignty but also risks drawing the country into a potential proxy war, according to security analysts.
Bangladesh is a peace-loving nation and must not be dragged into any form of regional conflict. While the fascist leader Yunus irresponsibly warns of constant war threats and urges readiness, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a visionary and successful stateswoman, has always pursued balanced diplomatic relations with neighboring countries, peacefully resolving regional disputes.
The question must be asked: Who is Bangladesh supposed to fight, and why? If our sovereignty is endangered, the responsibility lies with this unconstitutional, undemocratic regime. Their inflammatory rhetoric is an attempt to mask their failure to secure democratic legitimacy and ensure public safety.
The Home Affairs Adviser of this illegal government has admitted that “our border is not fully secure.” Yet, paradoxically, the regime has moved forward with a policy decision to establish a so-called humanitarian corridor. This contradiction raises serious concerns: How can a government incapable of securing its borders make such a sensitive decision? What are the terms and conditions of this corridor? To date, no explanation has been offered to the public.
In reality, the Yunus regime is toying with national sovereignty, attempting to create confusion to appease foreign patrons and entrench its illegitimate power. There is also no clarity on who will control the corridor or who can guarantee that it will not lead to unauthorised infiltration into Bangladesh.
By contrast, under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, Bangladesh provided shelter to over 1.1 million Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds—a globally recognised act of compassion. Meaningful negotiations were initiated for their repatriation, and Myanmar had initially agreed to take back 200,000 Rohingyas, with the rest to follow in phases. These efforts, including the creation of official repatriation lists, were made during the Awami League's tenure. The current illegal regime has failed to make any progress in this regard. More than 100,000 additional Rohingyas have reportedly entered Bangladesh recently.
Given the existing strategic interests and rivalries of powerful nations in this region, Bangladesh’s involvement in any such tension could have catastrophic implications for its sovereignty and economic stability.
An unconstitutional and unelected regime holds no moral or legal right to decide on such national sensitivity matters. If the fascist Yunus government proceeds with this corridor plan, it will once again demonstrate its disregard for the collective will and interest of the Bangladeshi people.
The people of Bangladesh will not accept any compromise or betrayal regarding national independence and sovereignty.
